Clinical Consultation and Training for Therapists Working with Narcissistic Abuse

Narcissistic abuse is a very specific form of relational violence, where the abuser exhibits signs of severe or malignant narcissism. Narcissistic abuse may occur in relationships, where a narcissistic person seeks a narcissistic supply, i.e., a partner to gain admiration of his or her own attributes. Through a cycle of physical and/or emotional abuse, the narcissist creates a dynamic abuser-and-victim relationship, resulting in traumatic bonding that makes it hard for their partner to leave the relationship.

Narcissistic abuse can also take place between parent and child. If left untreated, the child often becomes involved in abusive relationships as an adult.

Symptoms of narcissistic abuse syndrome (NAS) are similar to those of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and may include:
  • Intrusive thoughts or memories
  • Physical-emotional reactions to reminders of trauma
  • Nightmares and flashbacks (feeling as if event is happening again)
  • Avoidance of thoughts, people or situations associated with the trauma
  • Negative thoughts about self and world
  • Distorted sense of blame related to trauma
  • Sense of detachment or isolation from other people
  • Difficulty concentrating and/or sleeping
  • Hyper-vigilance, irritability, easily startled

NAS is my area of speciality as a therapist. I am passionate about working with clients to help them heal from trauma and to empower them to see vulnerability not as a source of shame but instead as the basis for joy and growth.

NAS is my area of speciality as a therapist. I am passionate about working with clients to help them heal from trauma and to empower them to see vulnerability not as a source of shame but instead as the basis for joy and growth.

I also provide clinical consultation for therapists working within the NAS realm, either intentionally as their area of speciality or if they seek guidance for a client whom they believe may be experiencing NAS.* I offer perspective and information about NAS and can support therapists in their modality of choice, as well as provide psychoeducation and other tools and strategies for approaching NAS in sessions. NAS consultation for therapists range from single to ongoing sessions, as needed.

For therapists interested in expanding their knowledge and areas of practice, I also provide NAS coaching and training.
